Loan Application Processor

New York City Full Time

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Loan Application Processor is responsible for handling direct homeowner inquiries and application intake by phone. The Loan Application Processor examines all incoming application documentation for completeness in accordance with lending program policies and procedures. This is a full time, exempt position based from our office in New York, NY. The current lending program is a loan fund dedicated to assisting New York State homeowners who are at risk of foreclosure.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Customer intake and data entry. Customer intake to include initial eligibility screening and collection of hardship, asset, and homeowner data
  • Collects required documentation from applicant(s) and follows up on missing items
  • Acts as a liaison between borrower, underwriter and housing counseling advocate
  • Provides detailed information about the program to interested applicants and advocates
  • Assists applicants and advocates with troubleshooting during any phase of the application process
  • Provides customer and/or their advocate with timely and periodic status updates of their loan application
  • Review initial checklist for any missing items and set up loan contacts
  • Collect and image supporting documentation when needed
  • Routes complete loan applications to underwriter
  • Refers applicants to Homeowner Hub for housing counseling or legal services referrals when necessary
  • Work closely with underwriting staff to establish productive and efficient work flows

Skills & Qualifications

  • At least 1-2 years of experience working with residential mortgage lending, community development finance, mortgage servicing, foreclosure prevention gap loan programs or government programs administration
  • Experience with mortgage default intervention or loss mitigation, preferred
  • Strong customer service and time management skills a must
  • Experience with Salesforce and Bytepro is a plus
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus
  • Capacity to work in a team-oriented environment.
