Account Manager, Government and Community Affairs

NLC is a New York City-based strategic communications, public relations and government affairs firm with strong media, business, civic and government relationships throughout the City and State, as well as across the country. We specialize in media relations, community affairs, crisis management, destination marketing and corporate positioning, and have successfully combined our strong community affairs and public relations strategies on behalf of many clients.

With our institutional knowledge and political insight, the government and community affairs team helps our clients connect to meet the challenges posed by public policy, legislative and regulatory action. Based upon the specific needs of our clients, we work to assess the political landscape, coordinate outreach to key officials and decision-makers, facilitate public/private partnerships, cultivate community support, provide representation at the state and local levels of government, and engage in issue-oriented publicity and advocacy campaigns.

Job Responsibilities:

The Account Manager will report to the Vice President of Government and Community Affairs and manage and assist with the following:

  • Interface with community stakeholders and decision makers on all levels of New York City and State government, including Community Boards and elected and public officials, on behalf of clients.
  • Provide community and government affairs counsel to clients in an array of industries including transportation, tourism, media, real estate, construction, higher education, energy and aviation.
  • Provide program development and administrative support to industry associations.
  • Draft op-eds and assist the Public Relations team in ensuring that key community stakeholders and decision makers are reached through the media.

Preferred Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in government relations, public policy, urban planning, economic development or similar field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Prior experience with NYC and/or NYS government
